Bertie County Flooding
September 21, 2016 A record 12 inches of rain caused the Cashie River to rise seven feet above flood stage, flooding the town of Windsor. At least 58 homes and 13 mobile homes were flooded.NC VOAD members are actively working to tearout, clean, and rehabilitate these homes. Volunteer now to work with our members in disaster recovery at Windsor.

Hurricane Matthew Approaching
September 8, 2016 NC VOAD and its members are on alert with the approach of Hurricane Matthew. Volunteers have staged materials and supplies in readiness for the Category 4 storm. High winds, heavy rains, fallen trees, undertow, flooding, and storm surge are expected. Eastern North Carolina residents should monitor the storm and evacuate if advised. Do not drive into standing water. Avoid fallen power lines.
Hurricane Matthew strikes North Carolina, Big Cleanup Ahead
October 9, 2016 NC VOAD and its members are responding to record-setting Hurricane Matthew. Shelters are open. Mass feeding is taking place. Chainsaw crews have been deployed. Cleanout, tearout, debris removal and mold prevention are taking place.
Major flooding has taken place and will continue to take place as water flows downstream. Do not drive into standing water. Avoid fallen power lines.

Volunteer organizations are aiding flood survivors. You can help by donating to the agencies involved. Monetary donations are accepted by NC VOAD members. Personal hygiene kits (e.g., face cloth, towel, soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste) and clean-up kits (e.g., bucket, detergent, bleach, mop, broom, sponge, towel) are welcomed by many NC VOAD members. Please contact an agency and get their specific recipe before beginning. Please contact our members and make sure that in-kind donations can be utilized before beginning a drive. Sometimes the best of intentions can go wrong. Also see this recommendation from the Center for International Disaster Information. |
